Is Swedish Difficult to Learn?
Hello! I am Jessica Tovesson, founder of Learn Swedish Now, LLC. I am a native Swedish speaker who has lived in the United States since 2006. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Education from Stockholm University, and I have 15 years of teaching experience. I previously taught at the Swedish School in Washington, DC, and was the Assistant Principal there, prior to relocating to Chicago. I maintain strong connections to Sweden and its culture through annual visits and an extensive network. In addition to the Swedish language, I also speak English, and conversational German and Spanish.
Learn Swedish Now provides private online Swedish lessons and group classes in the Swedish language. We can help anyone learn to speak Swedish, including those with Swedish ancestry, in a relationship with a Swedish speaking person, or planning to move to Sweden. The lessons also incorporate Swedish culture and current events, to help you become familiar with Sweden and its people.
At Learn Swedish Now, we give all new students one free, 30-minute trial lesson. We will discuss your goals and how we can best reach them, and we can use the free trial to develop a customized lesson plan to fit your learning style. There are no obligations with our free trial, and no credit card is needed to register.
The best way to learn and study Swedish is being taught by a native Swedish teacher, who can answer your questions as they come up, correct any grammatical or speech issues as they occur in your speech, and help to optimize Swedish language learning in the most efficient way. We provide live private online Swedish language lessons, as well as group Swedish classes. We also provide free social events online where you can learn about Sweden, and its culture and language; each time exploring new topics in a relaxed and engaging environment with others who share an interest in Sweden and the Swedish language.
Immersion (being in an environment where you are required to use the language) is commonly agreed to be the fastest way to learn a new language. Traveling abroad and living with locals speaking your target language facilitates learning the language quickly. Of course, not everyone has the opportunity to travel to, or live for a period of time, in Sweden.
Self-study books, videos, and apps can be frustrating and slow. It is difficult to make progress without a person to practice with at your current level. Students make great progress and reach their goals quickly with one-on-one instructions over Zoom.
Private lessons last 60 minutes, and can be taken once or twice a week, based on your preference. Students and teachers meet regularly, and lessons are customized to keep them fun, engaging, and to maximize learning on an individual basis. We do offer small-group conversation classes to complement the lessons; however, it is the personalized lessons that are most helpful to stay committed and advance quickly in mastering Swedish language learning, and speaking with confidence.
