New program for educational exchange with Sweden

Hi! I am Jessica Tovesson, founder of Learn Swedish Now. I am a native Swedish speaker based in Chicago that teaches people all across the US to speak Swedish using Zoom. My students make progress very quickly as I provide them immediate feedback in our live lessons, and most are speaking Swedish with confidence in a matter of a few months. My students come to me for different reasons, such as work, a planned relocation, having Swedish speaking relatives, or just generally being interested in a new language. Some students are preparing for university studies in Sweden, which is why today’s blog will provide some useful information about educational exchange and Swedish universities.

Let me first say that educational exchange is a great way to experience a new country and culture! By participating in learning programs you will get immersed in the new culture and have plenty of opportunities to meet new people, explore the local area and be exposed to local culture and traditions. While it might be intimidating to leave your familiar surroundings and comfort zone, most people that participate in one of these programs love the experience. While there are many ways to experience an educational or cultural exchange in Sweden, I wanted to highlight a new collaborative program between the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce (SACC) and 12 Swedish Universities.

While Sweden is a relatively small country it is also one of the most innovative in the world, and has a strong academic tradition. In order to promote academic exchange between Sweden and the SACC-USA recently announced a new program, SIREUS, which is a three-year collaboration between SACC-USA and 12 universities in Sweden. The program will focus on exchange in innovation, science and entrepreneurship, and act to increase mobility of researchers and students between the two countries. If you want to learn more about the program and how you can participate please follow the link above, or email me and I will put you in contact with the right people. Speaking of the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce, this is a great resource that can help your business in multiple ways. I was recently elected to the SACC-Chicago Board of Directors, and I have been nothing but impressed with all the great innovation and entrepreneurship that relies on exchange between my favorite two countries in the world!

If you are considering university studies in Sweden I would suggest starting with some research to make sure you are aware of the options and logistics. I am always available to offer advice, and you are welcome to use one of my free trial lessons to ask questions. I have former customers that are now studying in Sweden, and even some that are currently teaching in Sweden as university professors.  When it comes to academic institutions there is plenty to choose from, but you can start with the two oldest universities in Sweden, Uppsala and Lund. If you are interested in science and technology, Chalmers in Gothenburg and The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm are great choices. And if you are looking for a small town experience and being close to the beautiful beaches on the island of Öland, check out Linnaeus University which has a campus in my hometown of Kalmar. Once you are ready to apply for a program you will find all the information you need here

And of course, you might want to start your journey by learning to speak Swedish. Please consider signing up for a free trial below, and I will have you speaking Swedish with confidence in no time!
