Are you interested in refreshing your routine of learning Swedish?

Another wonderful summer filled with beautiful memories is behind me and I’m starting to enjoy the colorful fall season. But before I talk about the fall, and a challenge I have for you, I’m interested in hearing about how your summer has been.

My trip home to Sweden was fabulous, the trip started with warm summer days in Stockholm where I enjoyed gorgeous waterfront paths with great views of islands and the open spaces, joined in on fika with friends, and of course appreciated the many hours of daylight that you get in Scandinavia summer. The trip continued by train, and I arrived just in time to celebrate the most celebrated holiday in Sweden, the Midsummer, in the city of Jönköping. I got to enjoy many of the holiday traditions, including eating the delicious strawberry cake and dancing the “the little frogs” dance around the midsommar stång. I was ready to go for the holiday, having also celebrated Midsummer a little earlier in Andersonville in Chicago, before the trip to Sweden.

The Swedish neighborhood of Chicago, Andersonville, has a lot to offer and I would highly recommend a visit there next time you have the opportunity. The chamber of commerce in Andersonville invited me to their podcast. We had a great discussion about Swedish language and culture, and you can listen to the full episode using this link. Hope you enjoy it!

The rest of the vacation was spent in the medieval city of Kalmar located on the east coast in the southern region of Småland, and of course on the island gem Öland. The last stop (before flying home from Copenhagen, Denmark) for this trip was Lund, the historic town founded around 990 A.D. The University of Lund was established in 1666, making it one of the oldest institutions for education and research in Sweden. The Cathedral in Lund was founded in the late 11th century and has been called the most powerful representative of Romanesque architecture. Lund is also home to a newly established international research center, the European Spallation Source (ESS), which has one of the world's most intense neutron sources for material science exploration. All three places are well worth visiting when you are in Lund.

The fall (hösten) is just around the corner and I am looking forward to the refreshing changes in the season, to enjoying the beautiful trees coming into new colors and to offer you a challenge. The change of season could be the time to create a new routine of learning Swedish. Would you be interested in joining me in learning a new Swedish word every day? This is a challenge that I know many people are interested in. There are so many words to choose from. A great way to choose your words is to pick out the words that are important to you in English. You will definitely be amazed by how much progress you can make in just a month. If you need support to get started on this challenge you are welcome to reach out to me at any time.
